Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

A founder of Medidata Solutions, Tarek has served as chief executive officer since 2001 and chairman since 2009. Under his management, Medidata Solutions has become the world’s leading provider of cloud-based solutions to the life sciences industry, focused on improving outcomes and bringing greater productivity to clinical development. New York City-based Medidata completed a successful IPO in June 2009 and today is the leading global technology company supporting clinical trials in more than 115 countries.

Prior to Medidata, Tarek was the managing member of a partnership focused on public and private investments in technology and life sciences companies. Previously, Tarek co-managed a privately held equity fund specializing in publicly traded technology companies, including those in the healthcare and information technology fields. He has also served as assistant vice president of corporate finance at General Electric Capital Corporation and was a mergers and acquisitions analyst at Brown Brothers Harriman & Company.

Tarek received his BA in economics from Yale University in 1984. Tarek graduated from Columbia Business School in 1991, where he earned a degree in business administration and finance. He currently is a board member of the Partnership Fund for New York City and is chairman of Blue Legacy International, a not-for-profit organization focused on restoring our wetlands.



Glen is one of the founders of Medidata Solutions and the original architect of the Medidata Rave® system. Since the company's inception, Glen has been responsible for driving Medidata's technology vision and the delivery of a growing platform of cloud-based clinical solutions, inspiring the growth of the organization’s world-class development team and building the company's critical sponsor and partner relationships. Under his leadership, Medidata is leading the transformation of the industry’s approach to clinical development and helping to define the future state of life sciences.

Prior to his work with Medidata Solutions, Glen’s pioneering efforts in online physician/patient relationships included over 10 years of experience in medical software development, including electronic health records and consumer-targeted products. As a research assistant at Columbia University, he focused on both research science and medical informatics, working on a blood assay for the detection of micro-metastases in prostate cancer patients and creating a paperless CDM system. His peer-reviewed papers have been published in Applied Clinical Trials, Cancer, The Journal of Urology, Molecular Diagnostics, Urology and Urologic Clinics of North America.

Glen received his BS in molecular biology and genetics from Carnegie Mellon University and also studied probabilistic algorithms at the Courant Institute of Mathematics (New York University). In addition to authoring issued patents for clinical trial innovations, he has received many accolades for his industry commitment, including FierceBiotech’s Top Ten Biotech Techies in 2012, the PharmaVOICE 100 Most Inspiring People in 2006, Crain’s New York Business 40 Under 40 of 2010, and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award for the metro New York area in both 2006 and 2010. He is chairman of the board for Dancing Classrooms, a not-for-profit organization that seeks to cultivate essential life skills in children through the practice of social dance.


Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

As chief financial officer at Medidata Solutions, Cory leads the company’s finance and investor relations functions. Cory joined Medidata in 2008 as principal accounting officer and played a key role in preparing Medidata for its initial public offering in 2009. Cory has more than 20 years of accounting-related experience, including modernizing financial and operational business operations, and has expertise in financial auditing, internal control implementation and monitoring, revenue recognition and public company controllership.

Prior to joining Medidata, Cory served as senior vice president, controller of The BISYS Group, Inc (which was later acquired by Citibank) where he was responsible for a variety of duties including accounting, taxes, budgeting and planning. Cory also held various roles of increasing responsibility at DoubleClick, which subsequently became part of Google, including senior vice president, controller, and oversaw significant financial operation and internal control improvement while managing all aspects of accounting and reporting.

Cory held various corporate and divisional accounting roles at Colgate-Palmolive Company primarily in support of international operations and began his career at Arthur Andersen and Co. Cory holds an MBA from The Ohio State University and received his BS in accounting from San Francisco State University.


Executive Vice President, Customer Operations

Steve brings more than 25 years of sales and management experience in healthcare and technology-related fields to his position of executive vice president of customer operations at Medidata Solutions. Steve is responsible for creating and maintaining superior client and partner relations by directing the company’s global sales, alliances, services and support organizations.

Prior to joining Medidata Solutions, Steve served as vice president of sales at I-Many, where he played an integral role in transforming the organization into the leading contract management and trade relationship management software company, culminating in a successful initial public offering in July 2000. Previously, Steve spent five years at the Janis Group as a business development executive where he launched and managed several emerging business units and directed the corporate marketing department. At JGI, he helped evolve the single-product company to a world-class systems integrator with multi-vendor, complete ERP solution offerings for the industrial middle market.

Steve received his BS in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of Delaware in 1984.


Senior Vice President, Field Operations

Alan brings over 25 years of experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to his position as senior vice president of field operations at Medidata Solutions, where he is responsible for all direct and channel sales of the Medidata Clinical Cloud™ platform globally. His experience in ERP systems includes deployments at industry-leading companies including Corning, Pfizer, Bausch & Lomb and Bayer.

Throughout his career, Alan has worked in a wide range of field positions within the software application industry, including systems analyst, implementation consultant, project manager, pre-sales business consultant and group vice president of product sales. Before joining Medidata in 2005, Alan spent 11 years at PeopleSoft where his responsibilities included product lines sales, sales operations and integration of JD Edwards into PeopleSoft’s global sales organization. Prior to PeopleSoft, Alan was northeast sales director for Red Pepper, a provider of supply chain management (SCM) planning application software, and a major account executive at JD Edwards where he contributed to five years of exceptional growth.

Alan holds a BS in both computer science and marketing from Juniata College.


Executive Vice President, Human Resources

As executive vice president of human resources, Eileen is responsible for leading the strategic growth and development of Medidata Solutions' global team. Eileen brings more than 25 years of experience and executive leadership in human resources and business administration.

Before joining Medidata Solutions, Eileen spent five years as executive vice president of human resources at Rovi Corporation, a publically traded digital media entertainment software and services company, where she managed all workforce and human resources activity for 2,500 employees worldwide through 19 acquisitions and divestitures. She also restructured and streamlined the company’s decentralized human resources organization and revamped the talent acquisition team, hiring more than 400 new hires in a single year and driving team integrations in Russia and China. Previously, Eileen served as vice president of administration at Caspian Networks, Inc., where she was responsible for human resources, IT, legal, real estate and facilities, and her initiatives included rebuilding the executive team, opening offshore offices in Japan and Korea and assessing outsourcing to India, China and Canada. Over the course of her career, Eileen has also held a range of executive positions at Exodus Communications, AppGenesys, Inc., Apple Computer, Charles Schwab, Inc. and Tandem Computers, Inc.

Eileen holds an MS in technology management from Pepperdine University and a BS in organizational behavior from the University of San Francisco.


Vice President, Investor Relations

As head of investor relations for Medidata, Hulus is responsible for communicating Medidata’s business strategy and financial performance to the global investment community, including Wall Street analysts, institutional investors and the financial media. Hulus joined the company in 2009 and played an important role in Medidata’s initial public offering (IPO) and follow-on offering that same year. With over two decades of experience in investor relations, capital markets and investment research, Hulus works closely with the founders, senior executive team and board of directors to drive shareholder value.

Prior to joining Medidata, Hulus worked for a number of investor relations, public relations, global shareholder research and related advisory services firms, providing strategic financial communications counsel to corporate executives and board members on a myriad of issues. He has also held several research positions of increasing responsibility with Merrill Lynch Asset Management and the former chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Hulus is an active member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), serving on NIRI’s board of directors for four years, including board chairman in 2012–2013 and president of NIRI’s New York Chapter in 2007–2008. He is also an active member of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) and the CFA Institute. In 2004, Hulus received a Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America for his work on the IPO of National Financial Partners. Hulus received his BS in business administration, economics and finance from the University of Hartford and holds an MBA in finance from Monmouth University


Executive Vice President, General Counsel

As executive vice president and general counsel at Medidata Solutions, Mike is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the company. He also serves as Medidata's corporate secretary. Mike's principal areas of focus are securities compliance, corporate governance, commercial negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and providing legal and strategic advice to the management team and the board of directors. Mike has over 15 years of legal experience working with public and private companies in a variety of industries.

Immediately prior to joining Medidata, Mike served as associate general counsel, vice president and assistant secretary of The BISYS Group, Inc. (acquired by Citibank) where he was responsible for a broad range of SEC and general corporate matters as well as all legal support for the company's private equity services business. He previously held various counsel roles of increasing responsibility at Globespan and Conexant, including serving as general counsel at both companies. Mike began his legal career specializing in corporate and securities law at Olshan Grundman Frome Rosenzweig & Wolosky LLP, a law firm based in New York City.

Mike holds a law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and received his BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.


Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer

As chief marketing officer, Steve leads Medidata’s marketing functions and is primarily responsible for the development, refinement and execution of the company’s marketing strategy and plan. Steve brings more than 25 years of diverse executive leadership and business success to the task of building Medidata into a well-defined, industry-leading brand.

Prior to joining Medidata, Steve built a successful career in sales, marketing and business leadership with senior executive roles at Volkswagen, Apple, Nissan, Hyundai and Jumpstart Automotive Group. As the marketing leader at Volkswagen, Steve led development of the “Drivers wanted” campaign, earning recognition as Brandweek’s Marketer of the Year. As the vice president of global marketing communications for Apple, he led all global marketing activities and worked on development of the Apple store. Steve joined Nissan North America as the vice president of marketing for Nissan and Infiniti, where he led the development of the “Shift_” marketing campaign before moving to Tokyo to become the senior vice president of global marketing for Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. He was then recruited as the chief operations officer of Hyundai North America before becoming CEO of Jumpstart Automotive Group in 2008.

Steve considers himself a brand evangelist and business leader focused on delivering value through creative, insightful and consistent brand development. Steve attended Stanford University, earning a BA in psychology before receiving his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.


Senior Vice President, Professional Services

Dan brings over 20 years of pharmaceutical research and development experience to his role as senior vice president of professional services at Medidata Solutions. Dan is responsible for leading a global team that supports over 300 Medidata clients, delivering quality services that span from product configuration and best practices to guidance for clinical development efficiency through Medidata software use and innovative process change.

Prior to joining the Medidata team in 2005, Dan held positions with IBM Business Consulting Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting (PWCC) and Schering-Plough. Dan first began his clinical research career as a scientist designing and delivering preclinical and Phase I trials, followed by several years of consulting pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations on best practices in clinical development.

Dan received his BA in chemistry from Rutgers University and holds an MS in environmental science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.


Vice President, Quality & Regulatory Affairs

As vice president of quality and regulatory affairs at Medidata Solutions, Fran is responsible for refining and maintaining quality and regulatory standards for Medidata products and services and ensuring that the organization achieves compliance with these standards and industry best practices. With more than 35 years experience in the pharmaceutical and software industries, Fran has held a number of positions in information technology and quality assurance in drug development and clinical research. Fran has deep expertise in regulatory compliance, including electronic records/electronic signatures, computer system validation, privacy and risk management, as well as direct experience in the clinical and safety arenas.

Prior to joining Medidata, Fran was responsible for driving compliance strategies and solutions across a leading regulatory compliance consulting company, as well as providing consultancy and auditing services to clients. Previously, Fran served as the worldwide head of Pfizer R&D’s Part 11 Program and director of systems and services management for Pfizer’s corporate clinical and regulatory systems group. As Oracle's U.S. Director of Customer Satisfaction and Quality, Fran managed enterprise alliance programs and worked with cross-functional teams to solve customers’ most critical issues.

Fran is a frequent presenter at global forums such as the Drug Information Association Annual Meeting and various international industry workshops, and contributed to the 2006 Red Apple 2 Conference on Computerized Systems for Non-Clinical Safety Assessment and DIA’s PEACH (computerized systems in clinical research) initiative. Fran received her BS in medical computer science from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and an MBA in pharmaceutical marketing from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.


Senior Vice President, Research & Development

With more than 20 years of healthcare and pharmaceutical IT experience, Andrew joined Medidata Solutions in the UK as senior director of research and development. Andrew is responsible for Medidata’s Integration Center of Excellence which is designed to deliver an enterprise-wide e-clinical suite based on industry standards. He brings extensive contract negotiation experience within public and private sectors, as well as broad business management and technical design expertise.

Previously, Andrew launched InferMed Limited, a UK company developing, marketing and supporting software products for health and life science organizations, where he was responsible for leading business development and technical strategies. Andrew has also served as principal consultant at Integral Solutions Limited, business systems analyst at University College London Hospitals and project leader at Price Waterhouse Management Consultants.

Andrew received his BA in natural sciences from Magdelene College and holds a Certificate of Proficiency in Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM).


Executive Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development

As executive vice president, strategy and corporate development, Bryan supports the office of the CEO and president and collaborates with the executive team in crafting Medidata’s overall corporate strategy, including enterprise partnerships, M&A activities and relationships with industry and financial communities.

Bryan brings more than 20 years of experience to Medidata, including a strong background in driving financial strategy and transactions through M&A and technology partnerships. Bryan was a founding partner of the Technology Investment Banking Team at Centerview Partners, where he was responsible for transaction evaluation, corporate strategy, strategic positioning, capital structure advisory and investor communications. Previously, Bryan held leadership roles in the Technology Investment Banking Groups at UBS Investment Bank and Bear Stearns, where he worked extensively with domestic and international technology companies and technology focused private-equity sponsors. Prior to entering the financial services industry, Bryan led a strategic and information technology consulting practice focused on the competitive telecommunications and utility industries at DMR Consulting Group.

Bryan holds a BA in philosophy and political science from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.
